Nikki recently entered the world of non-monogamy after years of being a "serial monogamist". She says it's working much better for her. Adam and Nikki discuss non-monogamy, kink, being queer, feminism, and tackle a bunch of relationship myths and truths in an effort to find peace and understanding for ourselves.

Hell and Malfunction

So then I sink in slow motion, can't hold my breath long
In water's deep aloha half-smile
It's swim or be sunken
And know there's no one to get me out from under
So help me someone

Save all from their mountains
Save all from their drowning
Save all from their restless nights
Their suicides

I've never yet had enough
Are we okay? Are we open?
Again without the someone
I might succumb
This is my world
And this is me hanging on

Aaron is gay, Adam is not. But Adam has evolved to be not 100% straight either. Aaron tells his story about realizing he was gay as a teen, and the struggles that came with not being ready to come out for many years. Adam talks about how he was very homophobic as a teen, but over time he smartened up, and through exposure to and some involvement in the local Kink/Fetish community, he has come to be much more accepting of LGBTQ people, and has even explored some of these aspects of himself more deeply.

"A Separation of Friends and Faith"

Lyrics to intro/outro song (which was one of the key influencing factors in me walking away from religion):

"Nothing" by Portal

I walked ahead of the game, burned the third eye, I believed in nothing
Sold product in your name, I watched the sky, still believed in nothing
Empty hands I walked encaged, but always on the line I believed in nothing
Watched the hand unleash its rage, you'll learn in time to believe in nothing

As long as I can belong
As long as I can be strong
Though the call of faith is so loud
I've searched for truth for too long
So long

No we must never try to avert our eyes and take the offer
No we can never try to arm ourselves and push away
No we can never cry, give up the faith when the going's rougher
No we can never try to arm ourselves and pull away

You're a dying breed my friend, you'll never live your life as though he cared for you
But my faith will never bend. I've got friends and loved ones to help me stumble through
You wear your silver chain, but the cross won't stop the lies, you believe in nothing
That's me on your silver chain, I wrote the book but I believe in nothing

No we must never try to forgive the sins and revoke your offer
No we can never try to arm ourselves and push away
We're all too satisfied, these trials make all our skin and spirits rougher
No we can never try to clear the shelves and pull away

I'm starting a new mini-series, to talk about why I've changed my mind on various important issues over the years. I don't think people talk very often about why and how their views and feelings change (for the positive!) so I'm going to explore it myself, because I've changed my mind several times, and I believe I'm better off for it.

Hi everyone, just a quick heads up to let you know the podcast is still going. I've got several more guests lined up who have agreed to do the podcast, it has just been challenging to find times that work for both of us. My next interview is scheduled for a week from now and I hope to get back to the bi-weekly schedule after that. Stay tuned, thanks for listening, and keep sharing the show with anyone you think would enjoy.

This is an excerpt from the "Shenanigans with Rick Welbanks" podcast, Episode 40 (http://shenanigans.libsyn.com/srs40-another-army-update-with-zubin). The guest was a friend of Rick's who recently completed basic training for the Canadian Armed Forces. We asked him questions and I slipped in my go-to question of "what is the biggest misconception?", which led to an interesting chat.
